JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Senior Brittany Nobilio finished her stellar career as the NCAA record holder for digs per game and with the third most digs in NCAA volleyball history after recording 11 digs in Eastern Kentucky’s 3-0 loss to Jacksonville State on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ala. Nobilio entered the final match of her career needing nine more digs to move into third place on the NCAA career digs list. She ends her collegiate career with 2,454 digs and an average of 5.88 digs per game.
Game scores were 30-22, 30-11 and 30-21. EKU finishes its 2007 season with a 5-25 record and a 4-16 conference mark. Jacksonville State finishes its regular season schedule with a 15-5 Ohio Valley Conference record and is now 18-9 overall.
Nobilio’s ninth dig moved the Johnsburg, Ill., native past Houston’s Jaci Gonzalez (2,451) into third place on the NCAA career digs list. Nobilio finishes her career 337 digs short of Minnesota’s Paula Gentil’s NCAA record of 2,791.
Junior Amanda Wilson led the Colonel offensive attack with 12 kills and finished with three blocks.
Three Gamecocks finished with double-digit kill totals. Brittney Whitten led the way with 14 kills, Abbey Breit posted 12 kills and 18 digs, and Rebekah Nichols finished with 11 kills and a .455 hitting percentage.
