MUNCIE, Ind. – Eastern Kentucky’s men’s golf team, coming off back-to-back first place finishes to start the 2007-08 season, entered today’s final round at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in third place, seven shots behind the leader. The Colonels carded the second-best score of the third round but it wasn’t enough to overcome Toledo. EKU finished second, five shots out of first. The event was hosted by Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
Senior Ryan Britt led Eastern with a three-round total of 209, 1-under-par, and tied for fifth. Phil Hendrickson tied for 12th at 4-over-par (214). Justin Moore finished 19th with a six-over 216. Jesse Massie tied for 20th (7-over) and Trey Bowling at 28th (9-over) gave EKU five players in the top-30.
Hendrickson fired a final round 68 to move from a tie for 23rd to a 12th place tie. Britt and Massie both carded par-70’s in the final round.
Eastern Kentucky overcame Detroit for second place. Detroit entered the day with a one shot lead over the Colonels but turned in a final round total of 283, two shots behind Eastern’s third round score. Host Ball State was the only team to shoot better than EKU in the final round. The Cardinals fired a 274 to move up to fourth.
Ball State hosted the 2007 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational presented by Old National Bank at Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
Delaware Country Club is a par-70, 6,438-yard course.
EKU will be back in action on Friday when the team plays host to the Colonel Classic at Arlington. Two rounds will be played on Friday with the final round slated for Saturday.
