RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky hit -.022 on its way to a 3-0 loss to Tennessee State today at McBrayer Arena in Richmond, Ky. The Colonels committed 38 attack errors and recorded only 35 kills. TSU improves to 5-7 overall and 3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. EKU drops to 1-13 and 0-4 against league teams.
Senior Brittany Nobilio was honored before the start of the match. When Nobilio was credited with her 15th dig during game two of Friday’s match, she set a new OVC record for career digs, moving past Morehead State’s Cherelle Lampkins’ career total of 2,078. Nobilio was presented a game ball by head coach Lori Duncan to commemorate the record.
Game scores were 30-27, 30-24 and 30-26.
Kelly Davis recorded a match-high 10 kills and hit .292 for Tennessee State. Endia Oliver had nine kills, hit .412 and made 10 blocks.
Eastern Kentucky looked ready to take control of the match when the Colonels went on a 6-1 run in game one to turn a one-point lead into a 22-16 advantage. Tennessee State didn’t go away. After Amanda Fago made it 25-19 with a kill, the Colonels scored just two more points and the Lady Tigers scored eight straight to end the match, 30-27, and take a 1-0 lead. Five EKU attack errors contributed to TSU’s 8-0 to close out the game.
The Colonels never recovered and Tennessee State won the next two games to claim the match victory.
The Colonels will return to action Friday when they take to the road to face Eastern Illinois. The match in Charleston, Ill., is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
