RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team concludes the 2008 Legends Classic this weekend against Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 28) and Akron (Nov. 29). Fairleigh Dickinson hosts the three-day, round-robin tournament in Teaneck, N.J.
Eastern Kentucky (2-2) is coming off its best offensive performance of the season Tuesday against Thiel College. The Colonels tallied 42 points off 26 Tomcat turnovers in the victory.
Senior
Mike Rose has reached the 20-point plateau in three straight games. During that stretch, the guard is shooting 62.2 percent (23-of-37) from the floor and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from behind the arc. Rose ranks 15th on the Colonel all-time scoring list with 1,228 points.
Twelve teams are competing in the Legends Classic, hosted at on-campus arenas throughout the country. Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, Washington State and Mississippi State host Regional Round games before going to the New York metropolitan area to face each other for the Legends Classic tournament championship at the Prudential Center. The other participants will advance to play a round-robin series at a campus site over a three-day period.
This will be the first meeting between EKU and FDU. The Colonels last played a Northeast Conference opponent on Dec. 11, 2004, when Eastern defeated Robert Morris, 79-69. EKU is 5-4 all-time against current NEC opponents.
Eastern Kentucky is 12-6 against Akron, but the two teams have not played since 1987. Akron was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference from 1978-87.
Following the Legends Classic, Eastern Kentucky returns home on Thursday, Dec. 4, and begins OVC play against preseason league favorite Murray State.
