RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior football player Taylor Long was named second team All-American by the Associated Press on Wednesday. Long, Eastern Kentucky University’s place kicker the last four years, concluded his Colonel career as the program’s all-time leader in kicking points (285).

The native of Hopkinsville, Ky., made 20 field goals this year which ranks second nationally at the NCAA Division I FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) level. During one stretch this fall, Long converted 13 straight field goals including the overtime game-winner against Austin Peay on Sept. 27. Long then booted a career-best 50-yard field goal in the win over Eastern Illinois on Oct. 25.

Long, a first team All-OVC pick, converted 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) of his field goal attempts this year and finished second in the league in scoring at 7.3 points per game.

Long shares the program record for field goals made (49) with Dale Dawson (1983-86) and owns the program record in PATs (138).

Eastern Kentucky (8-4, 7-1 OVC) captured its 20th Ohio Valley Conference title in 2008 and advanced to the NCAA FCS playoffs for a record 19th time.
