RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team concludes its early-season, two-game OVC home stand Saturday evening against UT Martin. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Colonels (4-3, 0-1 OVC) struggled to score down the stretch in the second half of Thursday’s game against Murray State as EKU made only one field goal in the final 10 minutes of action. Eastern’s leading scorer, senior guard
Mike Rose, was held to a season-low two points in the eight-point loss.
UT Martin (2-4, 0-1) was one of the preseason OVC favorites thanks to the return of the 2007-08 OVC Player of the Year, Lester Hudson. The senior guard ranked among the top-10 nationally in scoring last year at 25.7 points per game. The Skyhawks like to shoot the three-ball and have actually attempted more three-pointers than the Colonels thus far, 169 to 168.
Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series, 20-13. The Colonels have won seven of the last eight meetings in McBrayer Arena, including a 108-100 quadruple overtime triumph on Jan. 24, 2002. EKU swept the season series last year and held Hudson to 17.5 ppg.
Following the UT Martin game, Eastern Kentucky returns to non-conference action against Covenant College (NAIA) on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
