Five EKU Programs Eclipse National Average in NCAA's Academic Progress Rate Report

Men's Golf Posts Perfect Score

RICHMOND, Ky. – Led by the men’s golf program’s perfect score of 1,000 for the fourth consecutive year, the Eastern Kentucky University Department of Athletics boasted several quality rankings in the 2006-07 Academic Progress Rate (APR) report released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on May 6.

Men’s golf was one of five EKU programs to rank above the national average in the APR, a measure of eligibility and retention of scholarship student-athletes. Baseball, men’s basketball, football and women’s golf also eclipsed the national average.

Five programs – baseball, men’s basketball, football, men’s golf and women’s golf – led all Division I institutions from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Football and men’s golf topped the Ohio Valley Conference with their scores while baseball and women’s golf both ranked second in the league.

The most recent NCAA report includes scores from the 2003-07 academic years. An athlete earns one point for remaining academically eligible each semester and another point each semester they remain at the school, accumulating a maximum of four points each year. The scoring is altered slightly for schools on a quarters-based calendar.
