Final Results
MUNCIE, Ind. – At the conclusion of the second round early Tuesday morning, Eastern Kentucky sat in third place, six shots behind the leader, at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State University. The Colonels used a final round even-par 280 to storm into first place and capture the title by nine shots over Ball State.
Senior Jesse Massie was tied for the seventh at the end of the first round but concluded play with rounds of 66 and 68 to take home individual medalist honors by four strokes.
Ball State (866) placed second, Austin Peay (869) finished third and Northern Illinois (872) rounded out the top four. Other teams competing included Bowling Green State, Cincinnati, Ohio and Butler.
Eastern Kentucky was seven shots better in the final round than any other team. Massie and senior Trey Bowling led the way over the final 18, both finishing with two-under par 68s. Massie followed Monday’s opening round one-over 71 with a four-under 66 in round two. He finished with a three round total of 205, five shots under par.
Bowling improved through each round and finished tied for 12th with a seven-over 217. Senior Brandon Berry (219) tied for 17th. Freshman Brian Fister (221) tied for 26th and senior Shaun McConnell (222) tied for 32nd.
The Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational was contested at the Delaware Country Club, a par-70, 6,438-yard course.
