Men's Golf In Striking Distance With 18 Holes To Play At The Cardinal Intercollegiate

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. –
Two Colonels sit under par through the first two rounds, and the Eastern Kentucky men’s golf team is three shots behind the leaders at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Louisville. U of L and Denver are tied for first at 15-under par. EKU has a two-round total of 564, 12 shots under.

The Colonels are among the leaders due in large part to seniors Trey Bowling and Jesse Massie. Bowling began play with a 7-under par 65 in the first round. He followed that with a 2-under 70 on the second 18 and is in second place overall at 9-under. Massie is tied for 10th at 3-under after rounds of 69 and 72.

Eastern Kentucky led by three shots after the first round with a team total of 278. A second round of 2-under 286 kept the Colonels in the top three.

Senior Brandon Berry (146, +2) is tied for 31st. Senior Shaun McConnell (148, +4) and freshman Brian Fister (148, +4) are tied for 37th.

The Cardinal Intercollegiate is being contested at the Cardinal Club, a par-72, 7,001-yard course. The third round of the 54-hole event will begin at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday. The Colonels will hit the course at 10 a.m.
