Gameweek: The Battle of the Bluegrass Returns to Roy Kidd Stadium

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky will meet on the gridiron for the 84th time this weekend as the two football teams square off in “The Battle of the Bluegrass.” Game time Saturday night at Roy Kidd Stadium is 6 p.m.

Both teams are coming off tough road losses last weekend as EKU fell to Cincinnati and Western dropped its game to Indiana. Hopefully the friendly confines of Roy Kidd Stadium will help Eastern tally its first win of the year. Since 2000, Eastern Kentucky is 6-2 in home openers including a dramatic 26-21 win over Western Kentucky in 2006. In fact, the Colonels have won seven straight home games overall dating back to October 2006.

Eastern and Western first met back in 1914 with the two teams splitting a pair of games that season. However, this could be the last time the two teams meet in Richmond for the foreseeable future as WKU will be completing the transition to Division I FBS next year.

-- Senior quarterback Allan Holland needs 55 yards to move into Eastern’s career top-10 passing list. Joey Crenshaw (1989-92) currently sits in 10th spot with 2,770 yards while Holland has 2,715. In the season opener at Cincinnati, Holland completed 70.6 percent (12-of-17) of his pass attempts. Holland has finished at 70 percent passing in three games since arriving at EKU in 2006.

-- Junior defensive lineman Chris Hall recorded two second half sacks at Cincinnati. Hall had three sacks the entire 2007 season.
