RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team hopes to pick up its third OVC road win of the season this Saturday at Austin Peay. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET.
No. 20 Eastern Kentucky (4-2, 4-1 OVC) is back atop the OVC standings after a win against UT Martin coupled with a Tennessee State loss last weekend. The Colonels forced five turnovers against the Skyhawks, including four interceptions. Sophomore
Jeremy Caldwell has six interceptions this year, thanks to two picks versus UTM, which is tied for most in all of Division I football. EKU has outscored the opposition on points off turnovers, 59-16.
Austin Peay (2-4, 1-2) is the best rushing team in the league. The Governors average 174.8 yards per game on the ground. In their most recent game against Southeast Missouri, the Govs ran for 325 yards on a season-high 62 rushing attempts. Austin Peay scored three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally for a 24-14 win.
Eastern Kentucky leads the league and ranks fifth nationally in fewest rushing yards allowed per game (73.5).
The Colonels have won 22 straight meetings against Austin Peay dating back to 1977. Only Tennessee (24 straight over Kentucky), Florida (23 straight over Kentucky) and William & Mary (23 straight over VMI) own longer active winning streaks over a single opponent. EKU turned the ball over four times last year, but escaped with a 13-10 overtime win.
Following the game against Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky returns home for Hall of Fame Weekend on Oct. 30-31 to host Southeast Missouri.
