RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will travel to Morehead State on Friday to face the first-place Eagles in an OVC showdown at 7:00 p.m.

The Colonels will then return to EKU Soccer Field on Sunday to face Francis Marion at 1:00 p.m. in their final non-conference game of 2009.

EKU (4-7-1, 1-1-1 OVC) is fresh off its first conference win last Sunday, a 1-0 shutout of Jacksonville State. Junior midfielder Alex Raich scored the game-winner off a corner kick assist from fellow junior midfielder Ashley Green.

Senior forward Lauren Imsande leads the Colonel offense with three goals (all of them game-winners) and one assist this season while sophomore midfielder Heather Bruce has recorded a team-best three assists and one goal.

Junior keeper Stephanie Lynch, meanwhile, is tied for the OVC lead in shutouts (four) and shutouts per game (0.44).

Morehead State (5-6-2, 2-0-1 OVC) currently sits atop the OVC standings. The Eagles are led offensively by Devan Jordan and Jillian Birchmeier, both of whom have scored five goals this season.

Keeper Lily Meisner has recorded three shutouts in 2009.

EKU has never beaten Morehead State in soccer. Despite a riveting second half comeback in 2008, the Colonels fell to the Eagles, 3-2, in overtime at EKU Soccer Field.

Sophomore midfielder Jessica Reed recorded the assist on the Colonels’ first goal of that game while junior forward Alex Hartwick scored the game-tying goal in the 65th minute.

The Colonels played Francis Marion (1-11-1) for the first time ever in 2008 and battled the Patriots to a 1-1 tie.

Hartwick led EKU with four shots that day, two of which were on goal. Lynch played all 110 minutes of the game in goal for the Colonels and made five saves.

This year, the Patriots are led by Kiley Williams, Angela Salem and Amanda Hall, all of whom have scored two goals on the season.
