Josh Daniel and senior
Josh Taylor combined for 27 points as the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team cruised to a 68-39 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Monday night in McBrayer Arena. The game was part of the 2009 O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.
Eastern (2-1) opened the game by scoring the first 10 points and never looked back. The Colonels put together another strong run (12-0) midway through the period thanks to three-pointers from senior
Papa Oppong, sophomore
Joshua Jones and Taylor to stretch the advantage to 20 points, 34-14. Eastern Kentucky shot 50 percent (9-of-18) from three-point range in the first half and took a 40-19 lead into the locker rooms.
Fairleigh Dickinson (1-3) cut the deficit to 18 points on two occasions in the second half, but never got any closer. A jumper from sophomore
Cordaro Ellis with 5:33 remaining gave EKU its largest lead of the game, 65-31.
Daniel came off the bench to pace the Colonels with 14 points and five rebounds. Taylor chipped in with 13 points and a career-high five assists.
Alvin Mofunanya was the only Knight to reach double figures. The forward tallied team highs in points (14) and rebounds (seven).
The Colonels continue play in the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic tomorrow night, Nov. 24, when they host UC Irvine at 6:00 p.m.

UTSA's Devin Gibson shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field and led three Roadrunners in double figures with 19 points as UTSA defeated UC Irvine, 66-56. Eric Wise paced the Anteaters with game highs in points (23) and rebounds (nine). UTSA improves to 3-0 while UC Irvine falls to 2-2.
