Colonels Step Away from OVC Action to Face Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – For just the third time in program history, the Eastern Kentucky University football team will meet Kentucky on the gridiron. WKYT-27 out of Lexington will be televising the game this Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

This is the seventh straight year Eastern Kentucky (5-3, 5-2 OVC) has squared off against an NCAA FBS program. The Colonels have faced Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Vanderbilt, N.C. State, Cincinnati, Indiana and Kentucky in that span. However, Eastern has not defeated an FBS school since 1985 when the Colonels defeated Louisville, 45-21.

Kentucky (4-4, 1-4 SEC) enters the game with a streak of 17 consecutive non-conference wins. It ties the
second-longest active non-conference win streak in the nation and the longest for UK since a 17-game non-conference win stretch from 1954-60. Last week against Mississippi State, tailback Derrick Locke posted his second career 100-yard rushing game with 103 yards on 17 carries. The Wildcats are averaging 186.6 rushing yards per game. It’s the team’s best mark since the 1995 Wildcats rushed for 196 yards per contest.

Eastern Kentucky is 0-2 all-time against Kentucky with the Wildcats earning a 50-10 victory in the most recent meeting in 2007. Head coach Dean Hood and running backs coach John Revere were both on the EKU staff when the teams first squared off in 1998. Junior wide receiver Evan Cromer tallied his first collegiate touchdown in the 2007 meeting while junior #Logan O’Connor# made his first collegiate field goal (45 yards) in that game.

Following the game at Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky returns to Roy Kidd Stadium for the home finale on Nov. 14 against Western Carolina.
