EKU Travels East to Face Maryland

RICHMOND, Ky. – For just the second time in program history, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will take on the Maryland Terrapins. Tip time on Saturday is set for 4:30 p.m.

Eastern’s (7-2, 1-1 OVC) next four games are all on the road beginning with Maryland. The Terps won the only other meeting between the two programs back in 1973, 106-57. Eastern is 11-27 all-time against current ACC schools including 6-6 versus Virginia Tech. EKU took on North Carolina in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament and fell, 86-65.

Maryland (5-3, 0-0 ACC) is 3-0 at home this year and has outscored the opposition by an average of 31 points in those three games. As of Dec. 6, the Terps ranked 15th nationally in field goal percentage defense (36.7 percent). Sophomore guard Sean Mosley scored a career-high 26 points in the most recent game against No. 3 Villanova. Freshman forward Jordan Williams chipped in with his first collegiate double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds).

EKU has two connections to the Old Line State. Sophomore Mike Lewis is from Upper Marlboro, Md., and played high school basketball at Suitland. Assistant coach Josh Merkel is a native of Walkersville, Md., and played collegiate ball for the Sea Gulls of Salisbury.

Following the game at Maryland, Eastern Kentucky will take the week off from competition to concentrate on final exams.
