Alex Jones recorded her third double-double in the last four games and freshman
Brittany Coles added 14 points in Eastern Kentucky’s 69-58 win over Davis & Elkins College Friday night at McBrayer Arena. The Lady Colonels (5-4) won for the fifth time in their last six games.
Jones finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Coles came off the bench to contribute four rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot to go along with her 14 points, which tied her career-high.
EKU out-rebounded Davis & Elkins (3-3) by 29. The Lady Colonels totaled a season-best 55 rebounds, including 22 off the offensive glass. Eastern out-scored D&E 42-12 in the paint.
Eastern Kentucky shot 51.5 percent in the second half and 43.5 percent for the game. The Lady Colonels made just 3-of-18 attempts from behind the arc, while the Senators knocked down 11 treys in 30 attempts.
Turnovers continue to plague the Lady Colonels. Davis & Elkins scored 32 points off 25 Eastern turnovers.

Davis & Elkins got on the board first, but EKU led by seven, 11-4, after an offensive rebound and lay-up by
Sarah Fraser-Jones with 14:58 to go in the first half. The two teams then exchanged a pair of runs. The Senators rolled off nine straight, including six by Shalisa Hill, to turn a seven-point deficit into a two-point lead, 13-11, with 7:22 remaining before intermission.
After the basket by Fraser-Jones, the Lady Colonels went over eight minutes without scoring. White’s free throw at the 6:53 mark snapped the drought and began an 11-0 Eastern Kentucky run. A free throw by Davis capped the spurt and gave EKU a 23-13 lead with 2:27 left in the first half. A three-pointer by D&E’s Lindsay Holiday with 17 seconds left on the clock made it an eight point game, 27-19, at the break.
The Senators scored the first five points of the second half to draw within four, 27-23, but the visitors would get no closer. A lay-up by Jones at the 14:05 mark pushed the Lady Colonels out in front by 11, 39-28. A jumper by Coles with 2:05 showing on the clock gave EKU its largest lead of 19 points, 66-47.
Teonna Jewell led Davis & Elkins with 16 points. Hill finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Colonels will have a week off to concentrate on finals. EKU will travel to face Cincinnati next Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
