RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team is on the road this Saturday at Mid-American Conference foe Ohio. Tip time is set for 2:30 p.m.
Eastern (7-3, 1-1 OVC) will be looking to earn its first road non-conference win of the season. Thus far, the Colonels’ only road non-conference games have been at Pittsburgh and Maryland. EKU is 4-0 against MAC opponents in five years under head coach Jeff Neubauer.
Ohio (6-3, 0-0 MAC) has won 30 of its last 31 non-conference home games following a 75-57 victory over Illinois State on Wednesday. Freshman guard D.J. Cooper finished with a career-high 18 points to go along with six assists. Five Bobcats average at least 10 points per game. Cooper leads the team in scoring (12.6 ppg) and assists (5.3 apg) while ranking second in rebounding (5.3 rpg).
This is the second consecutive year the two teams have met on the hardwood. Last winter, EKU rolled to a 73-51 win over the Bobcats in McBrayer Arena. The Colonels shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes on the way to a 42-26 halftime lead. That game was part of the annual ESPN BracketBusters series. Ohio leads the all-time series, 3-1.
Following the game at Ohio, Eastern Kentucky has a week off to celebrate the holiday season before competing in the 2009 Dr Pepper Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. (Dec. 29-30).
