EKU Continues OVC Action Saturday at UT Martin

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team concludes its OVC road trip Saturday evening at UT Martin. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Eastern (5-2, 0-1 OVC) hopes to pick up its first road win of the season after dropping a two-point affair at Murray State Thursday. The Colonels have lost both road contests this year while shooting just 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from the free throw line. Over the last three games, senior Papa Oppong is averaging 17.7 points per game while shooting 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the floor and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from three-point range.

UT Martin fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the OVC after a 74-66 loss to Morehead State Thursday night. Forward Benzor Simmons paced the Skyhawks with 22 points and nine rebounds. Simmons leads the team in scoring (20.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg) this year. Guard Reuben Clayton is the only other UTM player averaging double figures (14.8 ppg). The Skyhawks are shooting just 20.7 percent (17-of-82) from three-point range this year and connected on 4-of-20 (20 percent) long range shots against Morehead State.

The Colonels have won five of the last six meetings against the Skyhawks, but UTM prevailed in the most recent meeting last year, 74-55. Eastern was held to 32.1 percent shooting at UT Martin last year, its second lowest percentage of the season. Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series by a count of 21-14.

Following the game at UT Martin, Eastern Kentucky continues returns home to face Division II foe Ohio Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Storylines
--Eastern Kentucky committed a season-high 20 turnovers in the loss to Murray State Thursday night. The Colonels had not committed more than nine turnovers in the previous six games. It was also the first time this year EKU committed more turnovers than the opposition.

--Senior Josh Taylor is averaging almost twice as many rebounds this year (5.7 rpg) as he did one season ago (3.7 rpg). The forward pulled in seven rebounds against Murray State Thursday and a career-high 10 boards on Nov. 25 versus UTSA.
