With EKU leading by only four, 29-24, at the 5:18 mark in the first half, the Colonels – sparked by three three-pointers by Taylor - went on a 14-2 run over the next three minutes to head into the locker room with a commanding 43-32 advantage.

Taylor led EKU with 18 points at the break on 5-of-6 shooting from deep. Oppong chipped in with nine points at the half.

OVU, however, shot nearly as well in the first half as the Fighting Scots fired in 52 percent (12-of-23) from the field and 57 percent (4-of-7) from behind the arc.

White and Everage paced OVU at the half with nine points apiece.

The Colonels opened the second half with two quick threes from Stommes and senior Dayvon Ellis to give EKU a 15-point lead, 49-34. However, a fast break dunk by Tate Solomon with 13:20 showing on the clock brought OVU back to within 10 points, 57-47.

Three-pointers by Stommes and Oppong over the next five minutes pushed the Colonels’ lead back into the teens and clinched the victory for EKU.

This is only the second time in the last 45 years that the Colonels have tallied seven wins through the first nine games of the season.

EKU returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12, when the Colonels travel to play ACC foe Maryland at 4:30 p.m.
