Colonels Return Home to Face Ohio Valley

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team plays its only home game of December Wednesday night against Ohio Valley. All fans who donate a new, unwrapped toy to the Colonel Holiday Toy Drive will receive a complimentary ticket. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.

Eastern (6-2, 1-1 OVC) has won 13 straight home games dating back to last season. In the five home games this year, the Colonels are averaging 78.4 points per game while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor. EKU shot a season-high 64.3 percent (27-of-42) from the floor in its most recent game at UT Martin on Dec. 5.

Ohio Valley, a Division II program in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), fell to 1-4 overall following an 83-73 loss at Shepherd on Saturday. The Fighting Scots shot 54.7 percent from the field, but also committed 20 turnovers. Sophomore guard Micah Mills netted six three-pointers for 19 points. Junior forward Donavin Vinson averages a team-high 15.2 ppg and 6.4 rpg.

This is just the second ever meeting between the two schools. EKU and Ohio Valley squared off in the 1996-97 Eastern home opener. The Colonels won that game, 89-86. Former Eastern Kentucky guard Carlos Bess was one assist shy of a triple-double (20 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists) that day.

Following the game against Ohio Valley, Eastern Kentucky hits the road to take on ACC foe Maryland on Saturday.
