KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Eastern Kentucky ended play with a pair of wins at the Rebel Games on Wednesday. The Colonels (8-8) rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Yale 6-5 and then knocked off La Salle 8-3.

Yale built a 5-1 lead before EKU began to chip away. The Colonels scored one each in the third, fifth and sixth to draw within 5-4 heading into the seventh inning. After Eastern’s first two pitchers allowed five runs in the first three innings, senior Kalyn Fox came in and shutout the Bulldogs over the final three and one-third innings.

The first EKU batter in the bottom of the seventh line out, but the next three reached base. With one out and runners at first and second, head coach Jane Worthington called for the double steal to stay out of the double play. Amber Lenz then drew a walk to load the bases. The tying run scored on a fielder’s choice. After shutting down Yale from the circle, Fox came to bat with the game tied and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. She drew a walk to force in the winning run.

Senior Pam Webber went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, including the tying run. Fox earned the win after allowing only one hit and striking out one.

Against La Salle, Eastern Kentucky took advantage of two errors and a sacrifice fly to jump ahead 3-0 in the third inning. The Explorers answered in the bottom half of the inning. Shannon Skomorucha’s two-run single up the middle tied the score at 3-3.

Fox came up big for the Colonels again. She came on to pitch in the third and allowed the three tying runs, but gave up just one hit while holding La Salle scoreless over the final four innings. The EKU offense generated five unanswered runs. DeAnn Horswill’s two-out, two-run single capped a three-run fourth inning.

In addition to striking out five batters on her way to earning her second win of the day, Fox (3-0) recorded a hit and scored a run.

The Colonels will begin conference play on Saturday with a double header at home against Tennessee Tech. The games will get under way at 1 p.m., at Gertrude Hood Field.
