RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team completed a perfect season in OVC action Saturday with a 5-2 triumph over Austin Peay. This marked the first time in EKU history that both the men (17-8, 8-0 OVC) and women went undefeated against conference opponents.
Austin Peay won the top two singles matches, but Eastern swept the bottom four to earn the team victory. Freshman
Emilio Piriz sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles.
“I’m looking forward to see what we can do next week,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “I think we’re a better outdoor team than indoor, so it should be a good test for us.”
Eastern Kentucky will be the top seed in next weekend’s OVC tournament in Paducah, Ky. The Colonels will play in the semifinals on Saturday, April 18.
