Softball Drops Doubleheader At SEMO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Eastern Kentucky lost both games of a conference doubleheader to Southeast Missouri on Saturday. The Colonels (16-22, 7-10 OVC) lost the first game 4-3. The Redhawks (22-19, 10-8 OVC) won the second game by a score of 8-5.

Freshman Diane Gallagher had three hits and three stolen bases in the first game. Senior Kalyn Fox went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Southeast Missouri built a 3-0 lead through five innings before Eastern began to chip away. The Colonels scored twice in the sixth to cut the deficit in half. EKU added one in the seventh and had runners on second and third before a strikeout ended the game.

In the second game, the Colonels jumped out to a 2-0 lead and led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the second. SEMO took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Eastern Kentucky tied the score at 4-4 with a run in the fourth, but the Redhawks scored once in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good.

Gallagher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and her fourth stolen base of the day. Cassi Gibson finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Shyenne Hussey and Fox each drove in a pair of runs.

The Colonels and Redhawks will conclude their three game series on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
