RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s softball team dropped both games of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader to Tennessee-Martin today at Gertrude Hood Field. The Colonels (16-27, 7-13 OVC) lost 7-2 in the opener. The Skyhawks (33-20, 13-9 OVC) won the second game by a score of 5-0.

In the first game, an RBI single down the left field line by Jena Handley in the bottom of the first gave Eastern an early 1-0 lead. Jenny Bain tied it for UT Martin with a solo home run in the top of the third. Her homer set a new single season school record. However, an RBI double by Ashley Dollins in the bottom half of the third put the Colonels back on top by a 2-1 margin.

An EKU error and a run scoring single by Megan Latimer in the top of the fourth allowed the Skyhawks to take a 3-2 advantage, a lead they would never relinquish. A three-run home run by Laura Roberts highlighted a four-run seventh inning for UTM.

Eastern Kentucky loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but failed to score.

Kara Harper (16-7) allowed 10 hits but only two runs while striking out four over seven innings for Tennessee-Martin. Seven different Skyhawks scored one run. Roberts finished 2-for-4.
