Colonels End Season With Win Over UT Martin

Senior Kalyn Fox earned the win in her final game as a Colonel.

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Shyenne Hussey's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Eastern Kentucky a 4-2 win over Tennessee-Martin on Sunday in its final game of the 2009 season. The Colonels (17-27, 8-13 OVC) and the Skyhawks (33-21, 13-10 OVC) entered the final inning tied at 2-2.

A dropped fly ball in the bottom of the third inning allowed two runs to score for Eastern. UTM scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to tie the game. A single by Laura Roberts scored Savannah Roberts and cut the Colonel lead in half. Savannah Roberts then tied the score at 2-2 with an RBI single through the left side in the fifth.

UT Martin left the go-ahead run stranded at first in the top of the seventh. EKU’s Cassi Gibson led off the bottom of the inning with a single through the left side. Hussey came to the plate and drove the first pitch over the fence down the right field line.

On senior day, senior Kalyn Fox (7-2) pitched three and one third innings of relief to earn the win. She allowed one run on four hits and struck out one batter. Hussey finished 3-for-4. Jena Handley went 2-for-3.

Savannah Roberts finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Skyhawks. Laura Roberts went 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Colonel seniors Chelsea Butler, Jodi Pence, Pam Webber and Fox were honored before playing their final home game.
