RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team enters this weekend undefeated at home (3-0); however, the Colonels will face their greatest challenge thus far on Sunday when they host the Cincinnati Bearcats at EKU Soccer Field at 1:00 p.m.
The match marks the first time in program history the Colonels have played a BIG EAST opponent.
EKU (3-3-0) turned in two strong performances last weekend, defeating Cleveland State 2-0 on Friday and the beating Winthrop 2-1 on Sunday.
The Colonels then swept the weekly OVC soccer awards on Tuesday as senior forward
Lauren Imsande was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week, senior defender
Jessica Goshert was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week and junior keeper
Stephanie Lynch was named OVC Goalkeeper of the Week.
It was the first time in program history all three of the awards had been won by Colonels in the same week.
All three of the Colonels’ wins this season have been products of a game winner by Imsande, and two of those three game winners have been assisted by junior midfielder
Carly Muller.
Cincinnati is currently 2-3-0 with wins over Ohio and Saint Louis and losses to Kentucky, Northeastern and South Carolina. The Bearcats will play Xavier on Friday at home before travelling to Richmond for Sunday’s match.
Emily Hebbeler leads Cincinnati with two goals on the season, one of which was a game winner.
Cincinnati was 10-7-3 last year with a 5-3-3 record in the BIG EAST.
Following Sunday, the Colonels will travel south to the Sunshine State to take on Jacksonville on Sept. 18 and Florida on Sept. 20.
