RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University football team rallied in the second half and defeated Austin Peay, 17-3, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Roy Kidd Stadium. The Colonels (6-5, 5-2 OVC) close out the 2010 season having won their last four games.

EKU’s offense – which had gained 915 yards in its previous two games – was plagued by turnovers and dropped passes in the first half and did not find its groove until the second half.

A spark finally went off for Eastern when junior Jeremy Caldwell returned a punt 69-yards for a touchdown that gave the Colonels their first lead of the game, 10-3, midway through the third quarter.

On the Colonels’ next possession, sophomore quarterback #T.J. Pryor orchestrated a drive from midfield that ended with a one-yard touchdown plunge by junior running back H.B. Banjoman# just seconds into the fourth quarter and expanded EKU’s lead to 17-3. The Colonels rushed for 200 yards on the day and were led by Banjoman’s 89-yard effort.

Caldwell stepped up for the Colonels again on the Govs next possession as he picked off a pass deep in EKU’s territory that halted a dangerous APSU drive. The Govs had one more scoring chance after blocking a punt and recovering at the EKU 23-yard line with 8:58 left in the game. However, the Colonels stuffed the Govs on 4th-and-1 two minutes later and held onto the ball for the last seven minutes of the game.

The Colonel defense stifled APSU to just 13 yards passing and 128 yards rushing on the day after surrendering 263 yards on the ground to the Govs in a 24-20 loss last season.

NOTES

--Saturday’s win was EKU’s 300th OVC victory. EKU is the first school in the conference to reach 300 league wins.

--The 2010 Colonels posted the program’s 15th undefeated season (5-0) at Roy Kidd Stadium, which dates back to 1969, and first unblemished mark since 2007.
