EKU Aims to Wrap Up Top Four Seed for OVC Tourney

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will look to earn its 15th home win of the season Thursday night against UT Martin. The game, presented by Yellowbook, will tip off in McBrayer Arena at 7:30 p.m.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Eastern (19-10, 10-6 OVC) is in a three-way battle with Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois for the final two host sites for next Tuesday’s OVC tournament quarterfinals. The Colonels can clinch a top-four seed for the upcoming OVC tournament with a win Thursday coupled with an Austin Peay win at Eastern Illinois.

UT Martin (4-23, 1-15) has lost four straight games since defeating Southeast Missouri on Feb. 9. The Skyhawks are 0-14 in road games this year following a 68-52 setback to Ball State on Feb. 20. Junior guard Marquis Weddle, who did not play in the first meeting against EKU, paces the team in scoring (16.2 ppg) while junior forward Benzor Simmons averages 13.3 ppg and a team-high 5.3 rpg.

The Colonels are 22-14 all-time against UT Martin and have won six straight meetings versus the Skyhawks in McBrayer Arena. EKU shot a season-best 64.3 percent (27-of-42) from the floor in the first meeting against UT Martin on Dec. 5, but also committed a season-high 21 turnovers.

Following the UT Martin game, Eastern Kentucky will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against OVC regular season champ Murray State.
