Colonels Look to Remain Perfect at Home Against JSU

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team has never lost to Jacksonville State in McBrayer Arena. The two teams are set to meet for the seventh time in Richmond Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (16-8, 8-4 OVC) has a chance to inch closer to earning a top four seed in the upcoming OVC tournament with a win over Jacksonville State (10-12, 6-6 OVC). The Colonels currently sit two games ahead of Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech for the coveted fourth seed. Thanks to a season sweep over TTU, Eastern essentially has a three-game edge over the Golden Eagles. A victory over the Gamecocks would then put EKU three games ahead of JSU with only five conference games remaining.

The Gamecocks are just 1-7 in road games this year. Jacksonville State allowed a season-high 94 points Thursday night in a loss to Morehead State. Junior Trenton Marshall leads the OVC in scoring at 18.2 ppg, but was held to 10 points at Morehead State. Junior Nick Murphy, the team’s leading rebounder, posted a double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds) against the Eagles Thursday.

The all-time series record is tied at 7-all. Eastern is 6-0 at home against the Gamecocks, but just 1-7 at Jacksonville State.

Following the Jacksonville State game, Eastern Kentucky hits the road for three straight OVC contests beginning with Southeast Missouri on Feb. 11.
