Colonels Drop Men's Tennis Match to Stetson

Sophomore Niklas Schroeder
DeLAND, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team concluded its spring break trip with a 7-0 loss to Stetson Wednesday afternoon. Stetson (9-2) has now won seven straight matches while the Colonels fall to 7-8 overall this spring.

Sophomores Niklas Schroeder and Philip Janz tallied the lone EKU win of the day with an 8-7 decision over Stetson’s No. 1 doubles team.

Schroeder (No. 1) almost pulled off a victory in his singles match, but fell to Mark Mestan in a super tie-breaker.

“This was the best we have hit the ball since moving outdoors,” Eastern head coach Rob Oertel said. “There was a big difference today compared to the last two days, so hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Eastern Kentucky has the next week off to prepare for OVC foe Murray State on Friday, March 19.
