The Season Isn't Over Yet!

RICHMOND, Ky. – For the third time in the past six years, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will participate in postseason action as the Colonels earned a spot in the 2010 College Basketball Invitational. EKU hosts College of Charleston in an opening round game on Wednesday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (20-12) set a program single-season record with 15 home victories in 2009-10. Seniors Dayvon Ellis, Papa Oppong and Josh Taylor as well as junior Justin Stommes all shoot at least 50 percent from the floor at home. Oppong also averages 50.7 percent shooting (38-of-75) from three-point range in McBrayer Arena. On defense, the Colonels allow 63.2 ppg at home compared to 70.6 ppg in road games this season.

College of Charleston (21-11) is in the CBI for the second time in as many seasons. College of Charleston has won five of its last seven games overall, but fell to Appalachian State, 77-54, in the SoCon tournament semifinals. Junior guard Andrew Goudelock ranks second in the SoCon in scoring (19.4 ppg) while junior forward Jeremy Simmons ranks fourth in the league in rebounding (7.9 rpg).

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Eastern faced one other SoCon opponent this season – Dec. 30 at Chattanooga. The Colonels lost that game, 68-54.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will play either George Washington or VCU in the CBI quarterfinals on Monday, March 22.
