RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s softball team will host Tennessee State for a three-game conference series this week. The games will be at Gertrude Hood Field with Friday’s doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and Saturday’s single game getting underway at 1 p.m. 
Eastern Kentucky’s record currently stands at 8-21 while Tennessee State is 8-16 overall. Both teams have an Ohio Valley Conference record of 3-4, ranking them tied for fourth in the conference standings. While the Colonels are 3-2 in their last five games, the Tigers are 2-3. 
The teams have met 54 times with the Colonels holding an advantage over the Tigers of 47-7. The teams met twice last season resulting in Eastern winning both games by scores of 4-3 and 7-2. 
Eastern Kentucky went head-to-head with Morehead State on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The teams exchanged shutouts. MSU won the first game by a score of 2-0. As a response, Eastern came back to shut the Eagles out in the second game 5-0. 
Tennessee State played a doubleheader Tuesday against Austin Peay. TSU won the first game by a score of 5-2, and then fell in the second game 5-4. 
Diane Gallagher leads the Colonels with a batting average of .358, 18 runs, and 26 stolen bases. Gallagher is ranked fifth in the NCAA for stolen bases per game. 
Raquel Howes has a team-best 16 RBIs while senior 
Jena Handley has driven in 14. 
Stacey Toups has made five appearances in Eastern Kentucky’s last seven games. She started three of those games and has pitched two complete games. Toups has pitched one shutout, has a 3-1 record and 0.53 ERA in her last five appearances. 
Tennessee State players to watch include Brittany Webb, the Tigers’ leader in batting with a .356 average. She also has scored 10 runs and driven a team-best 16. Bridget Metzger has a team-high 14 runs and Caitlin Eaton has 12 RBIs.
