JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team dispatched host Jacksonville State Saturday, 7-0, to earn the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference regular season title. The Colonels (16-8, 7-0 OVC) will be the top seed in next weekend’s OVC tournament.
Junior
Alex Das (No. 1), sophomore
Philip Janz (No. 4) and sophomore
Carles Pons (No. 6) all went undefeated in OVC singles action this spring. Das is a legitimate candidate for OVC Player of the Year.
“There were lots of teams gunning for us this spring, but our team held strong,” EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said. “I’m very proud of the fashion in which we have competed against OVC foes thus far.”
The Colonels have now won 16 consecutive regular season conference matches dating back to 2008.
The 2010 OVC championships will be held April 16-18 in Paducah, Ky.
