Three Road Games In Five Days On The Horizon For Lady Colonels

Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will play three road games in five days beginning on Thursday at Eastern Illinois. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Lady Colonels will be looking to snap a current six-game losing streak, and a six-game skid against the Panthers.

Saturday’s game will be the 27th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois. Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 14-12, but has lost six straight to the Panthers. The Lady Colonels are 6-7 in games played in Charleston.

In its last game, Eastern Kentucky (4-10, 1-5 OVC) lost 78-69 to Tennessee Tech on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. The Golden Eagles made eight three-pointers, shot 49 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Lady Colonels by 10. Alex Jones led EKU with her third straight double-double, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Eastern Kentucky raced out to a 17-3 lead in part to three straight three-pointers and an old-fashioned three-point play. In addition to its 14-point lead against the Golden Eagles, the Lady Colonels had an 11-point lead in a loss to Jacksonville State on Thursday.

Jones is fourth in the OVC in scoring (15.2 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.2 rpg). Senior Reese Bass is third with 4.2 assists per game. Brittany Coles leads the league with 1.5 blocks per game.

Eastern Illinois is 8-7 overall and 4-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Panthers only league loss was at Tennessee Tech. EIU is 7-3 in its last 10 games.

Sophomore guard Ta’Kenya Nixon is the team’s top scorer (15.2 ppg) and second leading rebounder (6.2 rpg). She leads the OVC with an average of 5.5 assists per game. Mariah King, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward, averages 13.1 points and five rebounds per game. Chantelle Pressley, a 6-foot-1 forward, is the team’s leading rebounder (6.3 rpg) to go along with 9.5 points per game.

As a team, EIU averages 66.9 points per game and allows 64.7 per contest. The Panthers have made 39 percent of their shots from the field and 30 percent from three-point range.
