CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team lost 74-58 to Southeast Missouri State University on Saturday night. The Redhawks led wire-to-wire.

Brittany Coles led Eastern (4-12, 1-7 OVC) with 13 points. Alex Jones and Marie Carpenter each finished with 11 points. Nadia Mossong posted her second straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Katie Norman scored a game-beset 15 points for Southeast Missouri (6-11, 2-5 OVC).

SEMO scored first and never looked back. The Redhawks jumped out to a 12-3 lead as the Lady Colonels turned the ball over four times in the first four minutes of play. EKU scored only five points in the first eight minutes, falling behind 15-5 with 13:09 on the clock.

Southeast Missouri went on top by 16, 27-11, with 6:57 remaining in the first half. Norman’s lay-up at the 5:49 mark kept the margin at 16, 29-13. The Redhawks did not score again but the Lady Colonels trimmed only five points off the deficit. EKU trailed by 11 at the break, 29-18.

The SEMO drought extended two minutes into the second half, but Eastern had only managed to draw within nine.

The Redhawk lead ballooned to 15, 37-22, before the Lady Colonels put together a 15-4 run to get within four. A three-pointer from Coles capped the run and made it a 41-37 game. Moments later a basket by Jones with 10:00 left in the game got EKU within three, 44-41, but that is as close as the visitors would get.

EKU shot 28 percent from the field while Southeast hit on 48 percent of its shots.

The Lady Colonels conclude their three-game, six-day road trip on Monday at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
