Colonels Return to OVC Play Thursday Night

RICHMOND, Ky. – Following a five-game road swing, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team returns home Thursday night to host Jacksonville State. The game, presented by the Richmond Register, is set to tip at 7:30 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (6-8, 1-3 OVC) has never lost to Jacksonville State (2-12, 0-3) in McBrayer Arena. The Colonels are 7-0 all-time against the Gamecocks at home. A last minute Justin Stommes lay-up gave EKU a 66-65 win on Feb. 6, 2010.

Eastern snapped a four-game losing skid Sunday at Georgia Southern thanks to a balanced offensive attack led by senior Josh Daniel. The guard scored a team season-high and career-high 24 points in the win over the Eagles. EKU is 6-2 this year when Daniel scores at least 10 points.

Jacksonville State has lost eight straight games dating back to Nov. 27, but five of the losses have been by seven points or less. The Gamecocks are led by senior forward Nick Murphy, who ranks among the top 10 OVC players in both scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg).

Following Thursday’ game, Eastern Kentucky is right back in action on Saturday with a home game against Tennessee Tech.
