MURRAY, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team fell to host Murray State Saturday night in the CFSB Center, 66-56. With the win, the Racers (23-7, 14-4 OVC) clinched the OVC regular season title.

EKU (15-15, 9-9) ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak. The Colonels enter the OVC tournament as the No. 6 seed and will play No. 7 Southeast Missouri Wednesday night, March 2, in Nashville.

Eastern’s only lead of the night came after a Josh Daniel three-pointer put the Colonels ahead, 3-2. Back-to-back threes from Isacc Miles then helped put Murray State on top, 10-3.

A B.J. Jenkins put-back gave the Racers their largest lead of the half, 27-17. However, EKU battled back with a 7-2 spurt to end the half. Murray State shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the floor in the first 20 minutes to take a 29-24 advantage into the break.

Murray State extended its lead to 11 points early in the second frame, but the Colonels would not go away.

Back-to-back lay-ins by junior Jaron Jones brought EKU to within three points, 51-48, with 5:39 remaining. Two free throws from freshman Taylor Filipek then made the score, 51-50, with 4:50 left.

Unfortunately, EKU was not able to take the lead. Murray State held the Colonels scoreless over the ensuing four minutes and scored 10 straight points to put the game away. EKU went 0-for-4 from the field during that stretch while the Racers connected on two huge three-pointers.

Jones finished with a personal-high 12 points and team-best five rebounds off the bench. Senior Spencer Perrin added 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half.

The Colonels played without the services of starting junior guard Joshua Jones who suffered a left ankle injury at UT Martin Thursday night. Jones had started 52 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Miles and Jenkins combined for 41 points for Murray State.
