RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will look to bounce back this weekend when the Colonels open up a four-game road swing at Xavier on Friday at 7:00 p.m. EKU (2-5-1) dropped a pair of games to Marshall and Detroit Mercy at home last weekend.
The Colonels will face a Xavier team (3-3) that is unbeaten at home, with wins over Miami (Ohio), Evansville and Ball State. Xavier features a strong defense, as the Musketeers have allowed only four goals (and, coincidentally, scored only four goals) in six games, and all three of their losses have come by a score of 1-0. Alyssa Tindal leads the Xavier offense with one goal and two assists.
EKU has not faced Xavier since its inaugural season of 2005, when the Colonels fell to the Musketeers, 2-0.
EKU features a young core this year, as all 22 of the Colonels’ points (eight goals, six assists) have been scored by freshmen and sophomores. Freshman
Devon Saini leads the Colonel offense with three goals, one a game-winner against then-regionally ranked Miami (Ohio), and an assist. Freshman Annie Wickett, meanwhile, has started all but one game in goal for EKU and is sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference with 28 saves.
The Colonels will take this Sunday off before opening conference play next Friday with a visit to defending OVC champion Morehead State at 7:00 p.m.
