Late Run Sends Morehead State Past Lady Colonels

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University was within a single point with 10 minutes left in the game before Morehead State used a 15-3 run to pull away for a 68-58 victory on Saturday.

A jumper by EKU’s Jade Barber made it a 43-42 point game in favor of the Eagles with 10:37 left to play.  A three-pointer by Linda Dixon began the game-deciding run.  Courtney Lumpkin capped the 15-3 spurt with a free throw to give MSU a 58-45 lead.

Eastern got within nine four times but never any closer. 

Freshman Carla Booth and Barber each finished with 14 points for the Lady Colonels (8-8, 4-2 OVC).  Booth also had six rebounds and three assists.

Lumpkin registered 27 points for Morehead State (7-10, 4-1 OVC).  Dixon added 22 points.

MSU made seven three-pointers in 24 attempts (29.2 percent), while EKU hit on just 3-for-15 from deep.  The Eagles shot 48 percent from the field in the second half and 41 percent for the game.  Eastern connected on 45 percent in the second half and 36 percent for the game.

The Lady Colonels will be right back in action on Monday when they travel to face Austin Peay.  Tip-off in Clarksville, Tenn., is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. ET.
