RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team takes a break from Ohio Valley Conference competition Sunday when the Colonels welcome Longwood to McBrayer Arena. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.
Sunday is also ‘Colonel FAITHful Day.’ All fans who present a church bulletin at the ticket window will receive free admission to the game for the entire family! Halftime entertainment will feature a performance by ‘The Extreme Team,’ which is always a fan favorite.
The Colonels (11-9) are shooting to keep their home record unblemished (7-0) in the first-ever meeting with Longwood. EKU has only finished undefeated at home once in McBrayer Arena since its opening in 1963-64 (14-0 in 1990-91).
Longwood University (7-12), located in Farmville, Va., is one of three NCAA Division I independents. The Lancers play six of seven games on the road in January with stops in six different states – New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Kentucky and Florida. Longwood is 3-2 this month with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson, Brown and NJIT. Senior center Antwan Carter leads the squad in both scoring (18.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.9 rpg).
The Colonels and Lancers have not faced any common opponents this season. EKU is 28-7 (.800) in home non-conference games under head coach
Jeff Neubauer.
