NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
A stretch of three straight road games for the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team begins Wednesday night at Tennessee State University.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCSports.TV.

The Lady Colonels are 10-10 overall and 5-4 in OVC play after losing their past two league games.  Eastern Kentucky needs two more wins to double its total number of victories from last season.

Tennessee State enters Wednesday’s game 8-14 overall and 4-6 in OVC contests.

In its last game, Eastern led by one when Tennessee Tech went on a 20-5 first half run on its way to an 82-67 victory on Saturday.  Marie Carpenter had a team-best 13 points.  The Lady Colonels closed out the first half with a 14-4 run of their own to close to within four at the break, but never got any closer.

Saturday’s game will be the 49th meeting between Eastern and Tennessee State.  EKU leads the all-time series 33-15, but is 11-12 in games played in Nashville.

The two teams faced off earlier this season in Richmond.  Eastern shot 57 percent in the second half on its way to a 79-59 victory on Dec. 31.  EKU held TSU to 27 percent shooting and 28 points in the second half.  After getting out-rebounded by 15 and out-scored by four in the paint in the first half, the Lady Colonels out-rebounded TSU by three and held a 16-point advantage in the paint in the second half.

Carpenter led Eastern Kentucky with 17 points.  #LaRa’e Allen# finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Raechele Gray contributed 12 points and seven assists.  Tayla Foster led Tennessee State with 21 points.

Tennessee State has little trouble scoring.  The Lady Tigers have recorded 70 or more points in five of their last six games and have scored 80-plus six times this year.  For the season, TSU averages 70.3 points while allowing 77.4 per contest.

Tennessee State is coming off a 105-90 loss at Tennessee-Martin.  Chelsea Hudson provided a huge contribution off the bench, finishing with 38 points and 17 rebounds in 28 minutes of action.  The 6-foot redshirt freshman forward entered the game averaging 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.  Kim Haynes finished with 20 points and Jasmin Shuler added 18.  Only three other Lady Tigers scored and none had more than six points.

Shuler, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, leads the team in scoring at 15.9 points per contest.  Foster contributes 11.5 points and a team-best 5.6 rebounds per game, but hasn’t played in the last five games.

Shuler had nine points in the first meeting this season between Eastern and TSU.  Hudson did not score or register a rebound in three minutes of action in the first meeting.
