MURRAY, Ky. –
After playing three straight at home, the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will play its next three on the road, beginning at Murray State University on Monday night.

Eastern Kentucky will be the featured team on the OVC’s “Taking Charge of Monday Night.”  Fans can check OVCSports.com throughout the day on Monday for a video featuring head coach Chrissy Roberts, read about junior guard Raechele Gray and participate in a trivia question for a chance to win a t-shirt and two tickets to the 2012 OVC Women’s Basketball Championship.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available FREE on OVCSports.TV.

The Lady Colonels are 7-7 overall and 3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.  The Racers are 4-10 this season and 1-2 in league games.

In its last game, Eastern trailed by one at halftime but limited Southeast Missouri to 14 points and 13 percent shooting in the second half on its way to a 52-37 win on Saturday.  Southeast Missouri’s 37 points broke Eastern Kentucky’s program record for fewest points allowed in an Ohio Valley Conference game.  Jade Barber led EKU with 14 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.  Alex Jones grabbed nine boards and moved into 10th place on Eastern’s career rebounding list with 599.

EKU’s seven wins in its first 14 games of 2011-12 is one more than its total from all of last season (6-21, 3-15 OVC).  The Lady Colonels have also matched their number of OVC wins from last season.

In four career games against Murray State, Jones has four double-doubles.  She is averaging 13.8 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.  Five current Lady Colonels have played against Murray State.  In addition to Jones’ four double-doubles, in two games Marie Carpenter is averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 boards.

EKU and Murray State will meet for the 81st time.  Eastern holds a 51-29 advantage in the series and is 24-15 all-time in Murray.  The two teams have split the season series each of the last two seasons, but will only meet once this year.

After starting the season 2-1, Murray State has gone 2-9 and has just one win in its last six games.  However, the Racers are 3-0 at home this season.  MSU opened OVC play with an 80-75 win at Southeast Missouri before falling at Eastern Illinois and at Austin Peay.

The Racers lost to APSU 71-63 on Saturday.  Mariah Robinson led MSU with 17 points.  Ashleigh McBean had 16 points.  Murray State out-rebounded the Lady Govs by 12 but turned the ball over 10 more times than Austin Peay.  APSU out-scored MSU 29-12 off turnovers.

For the season, Murray State is averaging 4.3 fewer turnovers per game than their opponents, best in the OVC.  The Racers lead the OVC with 12.6 steals per game.  MSU ranks third in rebounding (41.9 rpg) and offensive rebounds (16.5 rpg).  Erica Burgess and Robinson lead the team in scoring at 14.4 and 14.3 points per game respectively.
