RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team has a chance to clinch one of the three remaining spots for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference tournament Thursday night when the Colonels welcome SIUE to McBrayer Arena. The game, presented by Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.

EKU (15-14, 6-8 OVC) is in a battle with Austin Peay, Jacksonville State and Eastern Illinois for the No. 6-8 seeds in the OVC tourney. A win over SIUE (8-16, 5-9) would put the Colonels in the league tournament for the 10th straight year.

Senior Jaron Jones has stepped up his game over the last three contests. The guard is averaging 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from behind the arc in that stretch. He equaled a career best with nine rebounds against IPFW on Feb. 18.

SIUE has won three of five games overall in February including a 64-62 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday. Forward Mark Yelovich hit the game-winning shot against the Huskies as time expired. Yelovich leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.1 rpg) this season. Guard Corey Wickware scored a career-high 23 points in the win over EKU on Feb. 4.

The Colonels are 2-1 all-time against SIUE after dropping an 80-74 decision in Edwardsville earlier this month. The Cougars got to the free throw line 35 times, a season high, in the Feb. 4 game.

-- Senior Joshua Jones equaled a personal high with five three-pointers in the win over IPFW on Feb. 18. Jones has made at least two three-pointers in seven straight games. During that stretch, the guard is shooting 44.2 percent (19-of-43) from long range.

-- Eastern Kentucky tallied 21 assists in the win over IPFW on Feb. 18, its second highest mark of the season. Junior #D’Mitri Riggs# registered a season-high six assists versus the Mastodons.
