Game Notes

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Senior Jasmine Stovall will play her final home game on Saturday when the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team hosts Eastern Illinois University at McBrayer Arena.

Tip-off in is scheduled for 4 p.m.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCSports.TV.

The game has major implications on Eastern Kentucky’s postseason track.  The Lady Colonels (12-14, 7-8 OVC) are still in the running for the No. 4 seed in the OVC tournament, which comes with a first round bye.  The No. 4 seed plays the winner of the No. 5 versus No. 8 game.  EKU must beat Eastern Illinois and Murray State must lose at Tennessee Tech in order for Eastern to get the No. 4 seed.

A loss will drop the Lady Colonels to the sixth seed, which means an opening round game against the No. 7 seed.

EKU has failed to score more than 55 points in four of its last five games, all four of which were losses, including its most recent game.  Eastern committed 24 turnovers in a 66-55 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Thursday.  Marie Carpenter led EKU with 20 points.  Alex Jones added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Jones needs 26 more to become EKU’s 21st member of the 1,000-point club.  She is now in seventh place on the school’s career rebounds list, 10 away from a tie for sixth.

Saturday’s game will be the 30th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois.  EKU won 13 of the first 16 meetings, but EIU has won nine straight and 12 of the last 13 in the series.  EKU is 8-6 in games played in Richmond.

Eastern Illinois won its first 11 conference games, but has now lost three of its last four, including two straight coming into Saturday’s game against EKU.  The Panthers are 21-7 overall and have locked up the No. 2 seed in the OVC tournament with a 12-3 OVC mark.

Ta`Kenya Nixon leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg).  She also averages 5.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game.  Mariah King is averaging 12.6 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds.

As a team, EIU scores 72 points per game while allowing 59 points.  The Panthers are shooting 43 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line.

However, in a 59-57 loss to Morehead State on Thursday, Eastern Illinois made just 1-of-9 (11.1 percent) from behind the arch and only connected on half of its 16 free throw attempts.
