BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky redshirt sophomore
Corey Walden was named as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week on Monday. The award is the second this season for Walden.
Walden’s career-high, and game-best, 28 points led Eastern to a win at Jacksonville State. He also had four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Walden made 8-of-11 attempts from the field, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc, and 10-of-10 at the free throw line. His previous career-high was 23 as a freshman at Stetson.
The Daytona Beach native scored six points with two rebounds and a block at Belmont.
In two games, Walden averaged 17 points, 2.5 rebounds, two assists and one steal. He made 63 percent of his shots from the field and all 11 attempts from the charity stripe.
Walden played his freshman season at Stetson before transferring first to Brevard Community College and then to Eastern Kentucky. He missed the 2011-12 season due to an injury.
The Colonels host two key OVC East Division games this week. Second place Tennessee State visits McBrayer Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m. OVC leader Belmont comes to Richmond on Saturday.
