RICHMOND, Ky. – Following four consecutive road games, the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team will play its next five games at the friendly confines of EKU Soccer Field. That home stretch begins this weekend with matches against Southeast Missouri and defending Ohio Valley Conference champion UT Martin.
EKU (2-9-1, 1-2-0 OVC) will host SEMO (4-4-2, 2-0-1 OVC) on Friday, Oct. 11, at 4:00 p.m. The Redhawks will arrive in Richmond having won four of their last five games, including two straight over Lindenwood and conference foe Jacksonville State. Erin Shulman has scored four goals this season and is the catalyst of the SEMO attack. Veteran goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon leads a stingy Redhawk defense that has permitted only one goal in its last four matches.
EKU is 2-6-0 all-time versus Southeast Missouri. The Colonels' last win over the Redhawks came back in 2009. Every EKU / SEMO game since 2008 has been decided by a score of 1-0.
EKU and UT Martin will square off on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1:00 p.m. UTM (4-7-1, 2-1-0) also enters the weekend playing good soccer. The Skyhawks have won three of their last four, including a pair of conference wins over JSU and Murray State. Abi Sanvee leads a balanced UTM offense with three goals and an assist on the season.
The Colonels are 3-5-1 all-time versus the Skyhawks, with their last win in the series coming during the 2011 season. Junior
Paige Larkin, then a freshman, scored the game-winning goal in that 2-1 result.
Eastern will look to get its offense going this weekend in front of the home crowd. Freshman
Cassie Smith scored another goal last weekend at SIUE and now leads the Colonels with six points on the year.
Following this weekend's games, EKU returns to action next weekend by hosting Murray State (Oct. 18) and Austin Peay (Oct. 20). Senior Day will be held before the Austin Peay game.
