KENNESAW, Ga. –
Eastern Kentucky couldn't overcome an 18-1 first half run by Youngstown State and lost 75-67 in the championship game of the Kennesaw State Invitational on Sunday.

The Colonels play their first home game of the 2013-14 season on Wednesday against Warren Wilson College. Tipoff at McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

An 8-1 run that included three-pointers by Glenn Cosey and Isaac McGlone had the Colonels (2-1) out in front by six, 20-14. However, YSU's next six field goals came from behind the arc. Ryan Webber hit three of the treys, the final one capping the run and giving the Penguins a 32-21 lead.

Youngstown State (3-0) made 7-of-16 (44 percent) from deep in the first half and led by 10, 36-26, at the break.

The Penguins scored the first five points of the second half to take their largest lead of the game. Eastern didn't fold. The Colonels used a 9-2 run midway through the second half to cut an 11-point deficit to four. A free throw by Eric Stutz capped the run and made it 53-49 with 8:48 left to play.

Youngstown State answered with six straight to go back in front by 10, but EKU stayed close and made one more run late in the game. YSU was in front by seven when the Colonels rolled off six straight, including four at the free throw line. Two at the charity stripe by Orlando Williams made it a one-point game, 64-63, with 3:41 to go.

The Penguins missed a three-pointer at the other end, but an offensive rebound and tip-in by Webber put a stop to the Eastern rally. Youngstown State stretched the margin back to seven with a minute left and then made 5-of-7 from the free throw line to secure the victory.

YSU made just two of its 10 attempts from three-point range in the second half.

Kendrick Perry, one of the best mid-major guards in the nation, scored a game-high 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field. He made 4-of-9 from behind the arc, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists. Webber finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Cosey and Williams each finished with 12 for Eastern Kentucky. Cosey had seven boards and five assists.
