RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky's men's basketball team was picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference East Division and High Point was picked to win the Big South Conference North Division. These two teams will meet Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Fans can receive free admission to the game by presenting their ticket stub from EKU's football game against Tennessee-Martin.
The Colonels enter the game with a 3-1 record. The Panthers are 1-1 this season. HPU is coming off a 94-64 win over Ferrum after falling at UNC Greensboro to start the season.
Eastern edged HPU 73-70 on the road last season. Mike DiNunno scored 22 points and hit all four of his free throws in the final 30 seconds to help secure the win. High Point took a 58-56 lead on a dunk by John Brown with 5:08 left in the game but the Colonels scored the next six points and never trailed again. The Panthers got within two five times but EKU answered each time. The Colonels made 8-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes.
Corey Walden contributed 13 points and six rebounds.
Glenn Cosey finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brown only had two points at halftime, but finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Allan Chaney added 14 points.
Chaney has double-doubles in each of his first two games this season, finishing with 21 points/12 rebounds versus UNC Greensboro and 17 points/15 rebounds against Ferrum.
Eastern Kentucky is coming off a 114-45 win over Warren Wilson. The Colonels tied an OVC record with 20 three-pointers. Cosey hit 6-of-10 from deep and finished with a game-best 26 points. He also had nine assists and no turnovers.
Through four games this season, the Colonels have committed 37 fewer turnovers and out-scored their opponents by 73 points off turnovers (109-36).
EKU carries a 17-game home court winning streak against non-conference teams into the game.
