ARDMORE, Pa. – Former Eastern Kentucky University men's golfer Brandon Brown is scheduled to begin play at the U.S. Open today (Thursday) at 2:42 p.m. ET. Storms in the area have already delayed play Thursday morning. Use the links above to track Brown's progress at the Open.
The 72-hole, 113th U.S. Open is being played at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. Merion has a par of 70 and plays 6,846 yards.
Brown was one of two competitors to qualify for the U.S. Open at the Springfield, Ohio sectional on June 3. Brown posted a two-round score of 135 (-5), to place second overall out of a field of 39 players. Four players finished two shots behind Brown to tie for third place. The Shelbyville, Ky., native tallied a 70 (E) in his first round and followed up with a 65 (-5).
Played over 36 holes in one day, sectional qualifying is a test of skill and endurance, with only a handful of available spots at each site – the number of qualifying spots is determined by the quality and quantity of the field at each location. With qualifying taking place all around the country, U.S.-based sectional qualifying is known as "golf's longest day."
Brown won his second straight money title on the NGA Pro Golf Tour in 2012 and made his PGA Tour debut last summer as well, playing in the Reno-Tahoe Open.
While competing for EKU, Brown was a two-time All-OVC honoree (2003, 2004) and also earned 2003 NCAA All-Midwest Region accolades.
