LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team fell at in-state foe Kentucky, 7-0, on Friday at the UK Soccer Complex.
With the loss, the Colonels drop to 0-3-0 on the season. The three teams that EKU has played in 2013 have a combined record of 6-1-1, with the one loss coming at No. 15 Wake Forest.
Zoe Swift recorded a hat trick for UK on Friday, scoring in the 17th, 50th and 57th minutes. Stuart Pope added a pair of goals for the Wildcats.
UK led only 3-0 at halftime, but exploded for four goals in a ten-minute span in the second half to put the game away.
Senior Nikki Donnelly led EKU with two shots in the game, one of which was on goal. Senior Janelle Coates, junior Emily D'Italia and freshman Cassie Smith also got off shots.
Freshman Mikalya Brillon was the only Colonel to play all 90 minutes of the game. Brillon has yet to leave the field in 2013.
Sophomores Erika Wolfer and Samm Melton both played in the net for EKU in the defeat.
Eastern returns to action on Sunday when the Colonels host Ohio at EKU Soccer Field at 1:00 p.m.
